Jagan Reddy’s Target: 75 MLAs

Posted under Home,News by Vincent on Monday 22 August 2011 at 11:20 am

It looks like YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is not going to remain content with bringing psychological pressure on the Congress party by getting the resignation of 25-30 MLAs from the assembly seats.

If the sources in the party are to be believed, Jagan is aiming at pulling down the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state and show his strength to the Congress party.

So, Jagan feels the time has come to throw the Congress government in the state in Bay of Bengal.

According to these sources, Jagan has sent messages to as many as 75 Congress MLAs in the state, who were hand-picked by his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in 2009 elections and have been staunch loyalists of YSR. They were all asked to attend the crucial party meeting on Sunday. Jagan reportedly told them that it was not proper on their part to remain silent at a time when the Congress party has directly targeted the “maha neta” by implicating him in the cheating and criminal conspiracy case. And it was the time for them to choose between YSR legacy and the conspiracy.

However, only 24 MLAs could attend the meeting and another six had called up and pledged their support to Jagan.

In the case of those who did not attend, Jagan’s camp is trying to bring pressure through the party cadres and force them to resign. If at least 60 MLAs resign, the government would collapse automatically, sources said.

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday began simultaneous searches at several places in the cases relating to alleged illegal assets of YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and irregularities in Emaar township project.

According to sources in CBI, about 20 teams began simultaneous searches at several places in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Visakhapatnam.

Armed with search warrants from a special court, the CBI sleuths began the searches at the residences of Jaganmohan Reddy, IAS officer B.P. Acharya, businessman Nimmagadda Prasad.

Searches were also launched at the offices of the companies owned by Jagan, as the MP from Kadapa is popularly known, and the firms which invested in his businesses.

The searches began a day after CBI registered a First Information Report in both the cases on the direction of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Jagan: ‘I Am Helpless, Alone And Young’

Hyderabad: Facing the heat over the probe into his alleged illegal wealth, Jaganmohan Reddy hit out at the Congress and said that his father’s legacy is being tarnished and that the Centre has unleashed a witch hunt against him.

Speaking to a news channel on Monday, Jagan – dubbed as India’s richest MP- said that he is helpless, alone and young and is being targeted for resigning from the party. “I was shown I-T notices after the death of my father,” rued Jagan.

Jagan is the son of Congress stalwart and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, late YS Rajashekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter crash in September 2009.

Taking on the Congress, Jagan said that his father’s reputation is being deliberately tarnished. He said, “This is what you do to a man who was with you for 30 years? You are attacking a dead man, this is witch hunting.”

When asked what message he would like to give to Sonia Gandhi, Jagan only said, “God is watching.”

On the future course of action, the Kadap MP, who had launched YSR Congress after he fell out with the grand old party, said, “We are not averse to supporting any party other than BJP. We have no issues with anybody else; let it be Sonia, Sharad Pawar or Mamata Banerjee.”

He also alleged that the Centre is doing injustice to Andhra Pradesh by not allocating powerful ministries to MPs from the state. “Why should we not get agriculture ministry when God so blesses us with numbers? Why should we not get railways when God so blesses us with the numbers?”

“These people have mentally made up their mind that somebody who has left Congress can’t come to power,” he added.

With regards to the allegations that he had influenced key policy decisions during his father’s tenure as the chief minister, Jagan said, “Get one single bite from any IAS officer that Jagan called up and told them to do something. You should ask the likes of Ahmed Patel (Sonia’s political secretary) about how many times they called up the CM to influence some decisions here.”

Last week the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ordered a full-fledged Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Jagan’s alleged illegal wealth raising the possibility of his arrest and seizure of his assets.

The federal agency will book a criminal case and take up investigations under the Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Corruption Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act as directed by the court.

The CBI, which questioned as many as 25 companies who made massive investments in Jagan’s businesses allegedly in return for the benefits they received from his father Rajasekhara Reddy, is expected to get a free hand in probing all aspects of the financial misdeeds

During the by-polls to the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in May this year, Jagan had declared assets of Rs 365 crore. In the 2009 elections, he was worth Rs 77 crore.

Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao, on whose letter last year the court took up the hearing, claims that Jagan was worth Rs.11 lakh prior to 2004 but now has assets were worth Rs 43,000 crore.

YSR, as Jagan’s father was known, became chief minister in 2004 and remained in power till his death in a helicopter crash in 2009.

The court ordered probe after it was prima facie convinced that many companies invested "corrupt money" in the firms owned by Jagan as part of quid pro quo arrangement for the largesse and benefits received by the investors from the government.

The court in its order observed that the investors received benefits in various forms like special economic zones, irrigation contracts, relaxation/permission for real estate ventures and mines.

Noting that the companies floated by Jagan showed phenomenal growth, the division bench said the face value of the shares of some companies were escalated by as much as 35 times.

The companies, which received massive investments including those routed through tax haven countries, include Jagati Publications that published the Telugu daily Sakshi and Indira Television that runs the Sakshi television channel.

Jagan Blackmailing Sonia?

Posted under Home,News by Remo on Monday 15 August 2011 at 7:41 pm

If his drowning becomes inevitable, then the YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy wants to take as many people as possible along with him. He knows that the charges against him are quite serious and going by the present trend of court-monitored CBI cases, he is going to have a tough time.

Realizing this, Jagan is desperately trying to drag as many Congress bigwigs as possible into the muddle. In a clever move to turn the tables on the Congress, Jagan has dragged the name of Ahmad Patel, the political adviser to the party President Sonia Gandhi and a very important leader in the Congress coterie.

He said Patel used to make several phone calls to his father and former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy to get things done in his favour. This is a bombshell that is sure to make the ruling party nervous.

“You should ask the likes of Ahmed Patel about how many times they called up the CM to influence some decisions here,” the Kadapa MP said in an interaction with a select group of reporters representing the national television channels.

By dragging Ahmad Patel into the whole controversy, Jagan’s game plan is clear. He wants to send a message to the Congress bosses that he has in his possession some key information about their activities and that he can spill the beans during the CBI interrogation.

CBI Will Not Dare To Arrest Jagan

Posted under Home,News by Remo on Monday 1 August 2011 at 6:04 pm

The Central Bureau of Investigation, which will be submitting its supplementary report to the state high court on the illegal inflow of investments into the group companies of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday, is expected to seek permission to conduct a comprehensive probe into the issue.

However, the moot question being debated in the political circles is whether the CBI would go to the extent of arresting Jagan on the lines of Kanimozhi or A Raja in the 2-G spectrum scandal.

According to one argument, the Centre would go to any extent if Jagan does not succumb to pressures and continues his tirade against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.

“If not now, it will happen later. The case is being built up so strongly that Jagan would end up in jail by the time the next assembly elections are held. The Congress high command will not give him a breathing time to build up the party for the next elections,” an analyst observed.

However, the CBI officials handling the case are not sure whether they could arrest Jagan and send him to jail.

“Though there are enough evidences to prove the illegal flow of investments into his group companies and to establish links between the investments and the favours doled out to the investors by the previous Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government, there are not enough evidences to throw Jagan behind the bars. We don’t think the Congress high command would also want to go that extent, because it would only make Jagan politically stronger,” an official said.

Jagan Needs Mahesh, Not Naresh

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is said to be not very much enthusiastic about the joining of yesteryear’s superstar Krishna and his actress-director wife Vijaya Nirmala, along with her son Naresh in his party.

Though Jagan welcomed them into the party, he is not very jubilant with their entry as they would anyway not add any strength to the party.

However, Jagan has other ideas. According to YSR Congress party sources, Jagan is of the view that if Krishna and Vijayanirmala join his party, their younger son Mahesh Babu would also follow suit very soon.

All said and done, Mahesh Babu has a lot of fan following and if he joins YSR Congress, it would fetch a lot of attraction to the party.

Even if Mahesh Babu is not willing to enter politics at this stage, he can at least extend support to him and campaign for the party in the elections, whenever they are held.

In fact, before 2009 elections, Jagan’s father late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had personally requested Mahesh Babu to canvass for the Congress, at least for a few days in sensitive constituencies, so that it would cheer up the Congress workers and improve the Congress chances of winning. Somehow, Mahesh Babu could not make it due to work pressure.

Jagan’s wife calling shots in Sakshi

With Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy getting busy with building up his fledgling YSR Congress party and is in neck-deep plans to oust the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state, he is not able to focus on his favourite media house Sakshi daily and channel.

For the last few months, his wife Bharati Reddy has been managing the affairs in the media house in the capacity of managing director, while Jagan continues to be its chairman.

Of late, Bharati has been directly involving even in the editorial matters, dictating what should go into the pages and on screen and whom to attack. This has naturally been a sort of embarrassing for professional journalists who prefer to work in an independent environment.

And according to inside sources, Bharati has been ruthless in her functioning. The way she has shown the door for ex-Chief Executive Officer Priyadarshini Ram Reddy has become a talking point in the journalistic circles in Sakshi.

Ram To Get Out Of Sakshi?

Posted under Home,News by Vincent on Monday 23 May 2011 at 10:17 am

If rumours in the media circles are to be believed, viewers of Sakshi television channel will soon be missing the baritone voice of CEO “Priyadarshini” Ram Reddy, popularly called “Ram Annayya.”

According to these rumours that emanated from Sakshi media house, Ram, whose name has become synonymous with Sakshi, is terribly upset with the way Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been treating him of late.

Though Ram has gave his own business activities and dedicated himself completely to Sakshi, Jagan has not been giving him due importance and treating him only as an employee. Of late, Jagan shouted at him in humiliating tone that hurt Ram very much.

Sources said Ram reportedly told his friends in Sakshi that he was planning to call it quits.

“I had joined Sakshi only because of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who used to show a lot of affection for me. He never treated me like any employee, but as a family member. But Jagan is an out and out businessman and he does not believe in human relations,” Ram is learnt to have commented.

The reason is that Jagan did not want Ram to get highlighted too much in Sakshi. As per sources, Jagan does not want anybody, except him, to hog the limelight. That is the reason why people like Rajasekhar or Raja or Roja could not feel comfortable with Jagan!

Jagan Mohan issue comes in focus at Andhra cabinet

Hyderabad, May 20: The alleged presence of the sympathisers of the Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the N Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinet became a topic of debate today following the allegations by some senior leaders in this regard.

Senior party leader and MLC K R Amos hit out at Jagan saying all those who are sympathetic towards him should leave. "You (Jagan)take all the covert leaders you have. Why should you say that Congress would come down soon?" he said. He added that if Jagan had the power to pull down the government, he should prove so.

State Rural Development Minister D Manikya Vara Prasad denied that there were any leaders sympathetic towards Jagan. "Those, who are loyal to the Chief Minister and the party high command, will remain so and all those in the Cabinet are party loyalists," he said.

Education Minister S Sailajanath said Congress leadership is competent enough to deal with those who work against party interests. "Congress has got a strong network and can recognise those working for the party and those working against it," he said.

The issue of sympathisers came in focus in the aftermath of the visit of Congress general secretary, in-charge of party affairs in AP Ghulam Nabi Azad to the city this week. Azad was in Hyderabad for two day to take stock of party affairs. He held meetings with a number of Congress leaders.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who will visit the national capital tomorrow, is likely to discuss various party affairs with the leadership.
